Clinical Study of the Tibial Shaft Fracture


Abstract
One hundred and ten cases of the tibial shaft fracture treated at the Orthopedic department of the Red Cross Hospital from the Mar, 1979 to Feb, 1982.
The results were as follows
1) Incidence of fractures was most frequent in twenties who are active (24..8%) and traffic accident were most common causes (60%).
2) Location of fracture was most common at distal 1/3 and as the type of fracture, spiral fracture was. more common in closed fractures and Comminuted fracture was more common in open fractures.
3) Associated injuries were fracture of fibula and injuries of skin and, soft- tissues1 etc.
4) Poor Prognosis- of fracture union was shown- in the distal 1/3 and in the comminuted and segmental fractures.
5) Delayed union .and non union rate. were 15.4%
6) The frequency of delayed union, and non-union were more prevalent in open fractures .(26.1%) than in closed fractures (8.9%).
7) Prognosis of fracture union was better under the age of 20 years and-poor over the age of 60 years.
8) There was prolonged rate of union in cases of associated fibular fracture.
